The Humor Behind TV Car
Commercials

The Super Bowl is coming up.
Besides football the TV Networks are gearing up to sell TV Commercial spots.
There will be Internet online
voting for funniest commercial, most original commercial, dumbest commercial
etc.
Some of the commercials can be quite humorous and contain a
lot of words that I am not sure we know the meaning of.
Ever watch a commercial and wonder what are they talking
about? When looking for a new car these terms can make
even the most educated buyer a little confused. Let me
share some of my favorites with you.
Car commercials have intriguing word phrases such as:
“purpose built”. Are we to think the car was built on purpose. I should hope
so if we want to get from point A to point B. Or was the car built to serve
some purpose? Preferably getting
us from point A to point B.
Some other defining terms I
have seen in car commercials are championship performance and advanced
performance. If a car has performance, I take this to mean that it runs.
Correct? Then what is the difference between championship performance and
advanced performance? Is advanced performance better or more desirable than
championship performance or is championship performance better or more desirable
than advanced performance? Does championship performance mean that the car can
run laps in the Indy 500? Speaking of performance what is: “performance that
you can trust”. Does this mean the screws won’t fall out of the car when I
drive it off the car lot? The word performance is used a lot in car ads as in
this phrase: “performance ready”. Is the car I am thinking of buying ready to
perform and does this come before or after championship performance and advanced
performance?
Are precisely
engineered manufactured products available in the aftermarket something I should
care about? I didn’t know there was an aftermarket. Is there a before market?
Is this anything like the stock market?
Another new term I came
across is regenerative braking. Does this mean when I use my braking system it
regenerates itself like growing new skin? If the braking system can do this,
can the dent in my bumper regenerate into a brand new bumper so I don’t have
to take my car to the body shop? Better yet can my Ford regenerate into a
Lamborghini?
