There has been a lot of talk about going green.  Clothes, cars, light bulbs their selling point is whether or not they possess green attributes, that is, organic compounds or more fuel efficient.

At times commercials for organic products can become confusing.  Take hair commercials.  Sometimes it is beyond me what they are talking about.  Take this example I created from magazine ads:

You know another thing that has me confused are commercials for hair products. You need to tell me what are they talking about.  Let me give you an example of a commercial.  SilkyOn a revolutionizing new hair care product.  Our volumizing formula with poly cell-u-phlex boosters and non-acnegenic, lipid barrier with humectant emolltions will give your hair a fresh look.  Use it once a day for that fresh clean look.  SilkyOn for the new you.  We miss you without it.  Poly cell-u-phlex boosters and a lipid barrier?   Maybe it’s just me, but do I really need a lipid barrier on my head?

Are theses new fangled terms organic?  Don’t get me wrong I am all for being organic although in some cases we can’t help but be non-organic.  It’s something we have to accept.  If you have had a knee replacement, can’t hear, have had breast cancer, the alternative I am afraid is a non-organic replacement.  Sometimes having a non-organic replacement is something psychologically we have to accept.

Even humans attach organic meanings to non-organic items.  Maybe it is a way

to show our love for the item.  As an example, computers have organic terms attached to them.  Have you heard of Easter Eggs and Cookies?  Easter Eggs are surprises programmers put into their programs.  One famous Easter Egg that was found in a computer operating system was the Liberty Bell March made famous by the Monty Python’s Flying Circus.  Don’t forget about Cookies.  Cookies are small text files placed on your computer by a web server.  This is all well and fine for computer enthusiasts but to me when I think of Easter Eggs and Cookies I think of stomach gratification.

With all the decisions we make in our daily lives do we really know if selecting paper over plastic to package our groceries is really an organic choice?  Actually I have heard that plastic is greener than paper bags.  Maybe the best solution is not to be wasteful when using non-organic items.  Fewer trips with the car, lights out more often.  It is a way to be Organic while we grow Non-organic.
